| The Moorish gecko has a dark, rugged body, a thick tail and short fingers. Its most characteristic trait, however, is its ability to move up and down sheer walls, using the tiny hooks on each of its fingers which allow it to "stick" to the surface.
The gecko is an insectivore with nocturnal habits. It can be easily seen at night lying motionless under the light of a lamp-post, waiting to catch an insect unawares. The female lays two eggs twice a year, once in April and once in June. After 120 days of incubation, the tiny geckos hatch, and have to fend entirely for themselves.
Despite their inoffensive nature, geckos are unjustly accused of eating clothes in wardrobes, when what they are really feeding on are moths. They enter wardrobes and closets in search of moths, but as the saying goes, it is often the innocent who pay.
