BLUE, GREAT, CRESTED AND COAL TITS (Parus sp)
Great tit (Parus major) Blue tit (Parus caeruleus),
Crested tit (Parus cristatus) Coal tit (Parus ater)
Tits are sedentary species. They all have insectivorous diets in the summer which explains their sharp, narrow beaks. They are attracted to bird tables and feeders in patios and private gardens. There are four species of Parus tits in Barcelona: the blue tit (Parus caeruleus), the great tit (Parus major), the crested tit (Parus cristatus) and the coal tit (Parus ater). The four species are typical of forest habitats, and they seek their food among branches, often hanging upside down to do so. They build their nests in tree holes and also in nest boxes specially built for tits. Their songs are highly repetitive and rhythmical.
