MAGPIE (Pica pica)

Sedentary species. Magpies are unmistakable, with their black and white plumage and long, greenish glossy tail. The species is currently expanding in Barcelona thanks to its ability to take advantage of the food available in parks and roof terraces. It will eat just about anything from small dead animals down to berries, vegetables and invertebrates. It builds its nest using twigs high up in trees. The elegant flight of the magpie is becoming an increasingly common sight in Barcelona.
