A plain between hills, deltas, a coastal range and the sea
Barcelona is well located, lying from south to north between the Mediterranean Sea and the Serra de Collserola which rises to the highest point of Tibidabo (512 m).

From east to west, the city is positioned between the deltas of the Besňs and Llobregat rivers in an area dissected by numerous streams and torrents (Riera d'Horta, Torrent del Bogatell, Torrent de l'Olla, Riera de Collserola, Riera Blanca, etc.) which channel water from the Serra de Collserola and the Plain of Barcelona to the sea. Today, the mid reaches and mouths of these watercourses have been channelled, urbanised or re-routed.
In broad terms, it can be said that the further one moves from the coast and towards the Serra de Collserola, the steeper the terrain becomes. In addition, the flattest part of Barcelona is punctuated by several low hills, either inland (Turó del Carmel -266m, Turó del Rovira -262m, Turó del Peira -138m, etc.) or along the coastline (Muntanya de Montjuďc -173 m)
